GOING ORGANIC

In my praise of processed food a couple of days ago I didn’t mention organic food. Don’t get me going on organic food, I’ve always thought of it as overrated, overpriced food sold at Whole Foods for the rich and picky.
But lately doubt has been creeping in. Often when the Veteran’s admistration asks about my health they want to know if I have ever been to Camp LeJeune in eastern North Carolina. I’ve wondered why they ask. And then this week I read an article on the causes of Parkinson’s disease, which has until now been assumed to be genetic. But this article wondered if may the source of Parkinson’s disease is something in the water, specifically the contaminated water at Camp LeJeune where a great many people have gotten sick, a number with Parkinson’s disease. The article pointed out that a great number of new chemical combinations have been introduced into products we use every day without much study of their longterm affects. No clear genetic cause of Parkinson’s has been found but contaminated water, also used to water crops, appears to be a likely culprit.
All of a sudden those kooks who insist on organic vegetables don’t seem so kooky any more, and my mocking of them seems to be a little stupid.
