BALLAD SWAP

I was out for a walk when I discovered tonight was the monthly Wednesday Ballad Swap at Zadie’s restaurant in the Old Jail. The ballad swap is one way that a dedicate group of ballad singers, keep an old Appalachian tradition alive, singing ballads of romance and deceit and murder that go back to Ireland and Scotland. So I stopped by and made videos of several of the ballad singers including one ballad with a huge number of verses that Sheila Kay Adams started singing but then couldn’t remember the words, told the story instead, then handed it off to her daughter to sing who soon got tangled up, too, and then handed it off to a third woman to finish.
