MY PHOTOS IN ZUMA
Months ago I asked Joel, who owns Zuma, if I could put up photos in Zuma of the Mermaids and Pirates parade that is a wonderful yearly celebration in Marshall. People dream up marvelous costumes and ride on floats that are pulled through Marshall. Last year because of the flood the parade was cancelled, so this year promises to be a special parade. I wanted to join the festivities by sharing photos of years past.
But then came an invitation to submit works to a Madison County Arts Council show of artist’s recent works. So I decided to enter a collage of my Mermaids and Pirates photos here instead. I’d never considered even the possibility of being in an art show and here was my chance. I submitted my photos, the deadline for submissions passed, I looked every day to see if I was considered an artist or not. After four or five days and no word while others were accepted, I was apparently not an artist and was grateful that Joel let me put the photographs up in Zuma. Susie insisted I not get on a ladder so she climbed up and fastened my photos, printed on Mixtiles which could stick to the wall without needing nails or damaging paint. We got them up and then they began to fall off, one by one. We returned the next morning with two sided tape, hoping we wouldn’t pull the paint off, and put them back up where they will stay for a while. When we were done I learned that I had been accepted for the art show and somehow hadn’t gotten the email of acceptance.
