MAYPOLE DANCE
Today after driving 40 minutes to church and then eating lunch at Panera restaurant, I drove an hour back to the home of Dana Nagle, deep in the woods above Susie and Todd’s tiny house for a Maypole Dance in celebration of Dana’s 50th birthday. She had invited a circle of friends to celebrate with her. We ate food that people had brought on her front porch and then at 4, when everyone had assembled, we gathered in a large circle around the 30 foot high pole with ribbons of ever color fastened to the top. After receiving instructions on how half the group, every other person, would move to the left holding their ribbon tight, and the other half would move to the right going under and over the person coming toward them, weaving a tight multicolored pattern around the pole. It was a twenty minute process and I videoed it in spatial (3D) video, both from outside the circle and from inside the circle. I am including examples of the maypole dance here.
