MARCH 2, THURSDAY

THE HELSINKI DESIGN MUSEUM

On our first afternoon in Helsinki we went to the Design Museum Nuutajarvi. The main exhibit at the Design Museum was of the work of outstanding Finnish designer husband and wife, Antti and Vuokko Nurmesniemi, who also contributed to Marimekko fabric design for which Finland is famous.

It was interesting that some of the women visitors came in outfits that looked as if they were taken right out of the exhibit and every woman wore stylish shoes, often knee high. On the first floor of the Design Museum is a museum shop (there is also an on line shop) and a lovely cafe. After visiting the museum we walked through the streets were every shop showed the same design sense and good taste of the Design Museum. Our Airbnb is in the design district of Helsinki on the fifth floor with tiny three cramped people elevator. The compact Airbnb is all white cabinets and walls and ceiling with huge windows so that it filled with light even in the early morning and the kitchen has every appliance possible. There is also an enormous tv set.

Great visit to the museum. Makes me wonder why the Finns are so wonderfully designing!
