ISABELLA DUCROT
Susie sent me a You Tube Louisiana channel film about Isabella Ducrot, a 94 year old Italian woman who became an artist very late in her life. It is about 15 minutes long and I recommend it to anyone. She lived a full life as a mother and wife before becoming an artist. She didn’t study painting, she just began in old age to paint in a flowing, impressionistic way. She is becoming well known, but fame doesn’t touch her. She is radiant with the joy of being a painter, of getting up early, entering her studio, preparing her brushes and then painting whatever touches her and makes her feel alive.
She has opened herself up to the world around her which brings her delight and can’t stop talking about how happy painting makes her feel. Her life is full of joy. She is older than any of my friends with all of our ailments and she is full of joy. She doesn’t dwell on the past and she doesn’t anticipate the future, she lives in the present and is fully alive.
