GORDON’S POND WITH JOHN AND ANDREA
One of the Mahy family’s closest friends, extending all the way back to the days when they lived in Vienna, Austria, before their father, John, died and they had to leave, is the Boright family. Gerlinde is Austrian and couldn’t come because she is about to have chemo treatment for cancer on Friday. Her cancer has darkened this and the last reunion two years ago because she is such force and almost a substitute mother for the Mahy siblings since Marge, their mother, died twenty years ago. The Borights have come to every Mahy reunion and it was very good at noon to greet John Boright with his daughter, Andrea.
One of the high points of each reunion is going with John, an avid bird watcher, to Gordon’s Pond, a bird sanctuary where flocks of snow geese and other birds stop during their migrations north or south. This year the bond was still with the only birds being a few black ducks far in the distance. But the walk was beautiful. I was as interested in the patterns the dried grasses made as in birds so had a good time photographing the scenery. We did see one line of snow geese far above us as they headed to parts unknown.
