DISLOCATION
I leave on Saturday for Rehoboth Beach with Todd and Susie for the Mahy family every other year reunion. We will only be gone a week but for some reason before every trip, even a short one, I feel that I have to complete all the things that I have been putting off. So today I collected my tax receipts and wrote to Leigh Ann Jones who does my taxes. This year I sold my house so there will be capital gains to pay. I feel quite helpless so wrote to her for guidance. Taxes aren’t due for a couple of months, but this short trip made me feel I had to write now.
The good thing about even a short trip in old age is that you anticipate the future rather than being caught in the past which I was when looking at old photographs earlier in the week. Even when there isn’t much future to look forward to and I am not preparing for future projects as I did in my 30’s and 40’s, I feel more alive when looking forward than looking backward.
