GUILT

Today we learn that the man the ICE agents were pursuing when they shot Pretti was Jose Huerta Chuma from Ecuador who has been living in USA for two decades. The agents saw him driving, turned and followed him and he parked his car and went into a store where the owner locked the door. In all the excitement he wasn’t apprehended but he did observe the killing of Alex Pretti in the street outside and feels guilt for being the person who led the agents to confront Alex and shoot him.

DHS officials called Chuma “a violent criminal illegal alien” but he doesn’t sound like that at all. He once pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor offense in a fight with a partner but was never guilty of a crime.

Again the DHS version sounds like a excuse to demonize rather than the truth. If the man has lived here for two decades and was working as a rideshare driver with American children why not accept him and give him American citizenship.

That is my take, but for some reason Americans, after accepting immigrants for most of our history but with episodes when we panicked over immigrants, with this being one more episode, are unable to accept immigrants who would actually help us in the work force and benefit us demographically because we need more younger people to support our welfare system. I think that all of us Americans are caught in this issue and have somehow created our own mess.
