ICE ON THE RIVER

This morning I walked across long bridge over the French Broad River to Zuma where I sat for 2 1/2 hours drinking one mug and a refill of coffee kept hot by my Ember battery heated mug. About ten people were there at any one time. As I typed I liked the sound of the music and hum of conversation around me and the warmth of the cafe. On a normal day it would have been full of people, but today the slippery streets are keeping people away.

I took photographs of the town and the French Broad river. It has been very cold for the last few nights, below 10 degrees Fahrenheit at night, so ice is forming at the edge of the river and even at shallow spots in the middle of the river and ice chunks are floating down the center of the river, chunks that probably formed in the shallow streams that flow into the French Broad and then broke free and floated down to the river itself.
