HISTORICAL TOUR OF THE SQUARE WITH LUIS
I took the guided tour of the square for the second time as the new yoga group was being introduced to the town. There are crucial times in Mexican history that he wanted us to remember.
1. The conquest of Mexico by the Spaniards.
2. Conquest by Napoleon
3. Conquest by Maximillian or Austria
4. Mexican Independence from European domination.
5. The Mexican revolution which was a class revolution against the domination of white Spaniards over different mixed racial mixtures.
We looked at the home of Miguel de Allende a second generation Spaniard, and the much more palatial home of a first generation Spanish family who became wealthy through the silver trade. We saw the building where conspirators, including Allende, planned the Spanish revolution. They were discovered and Allende was decapitated and his head put on public display. We heard the story of the building of the cathedral shaped Parrish church built in an eclectic style. And then finally had a great meal in the restaurant of a marvelous bakery.
