ZANDUNGA

Yesterday the group first did yoga at 6:30 a.m. in the large room and then had a special breakfast of egg frittata, fruit, toast, coffee and tea. Then we left for Zandunga, a party place out of San Miguel through a desert of dried grass and scrub trees. Zandunga itself was bone dry with the surrounding garden being low thorn trees and forms of cactus with statues in between.

The attraction here was an excellent Cuban band, a sumptuous eat all you want Mexican buffet, but most of all, dancing. The crowd of maybe 100 who were seated at tables of different sizes, were all in their 60’s and 70’s, no kids, no one in their 20’s, and most dressed to kill. We ate, then listened to violin and Spanish guitar performed by a woman and an older man, who apparently gave concerts worldwide, including Lincoln Center in New York. Then came a Cuban band and instantly the dance floor filled with women and a few couples, including Steve and Lori. This was why we were here and the women who filled the dance floor were having the time of their lives. Someone tried to pull me in and I joined, not to dance but to make a spatial (3D) close up video of the women in our group dancing. The women danced and danced but finally it was time to pull away and get into our four taxies and drive back to San Miguel. The taxi driver of my taxi, who was studying architecture, decided to give us an architectural tour of San Miguel. So that is how we ended our tour.
