CASEY DRIESSEN PLAYS THE FIDDLE AND MORE

This is the third time I have watched and listened to Casey Driessen play the fiddle at Zadie’s. He is an amazing fiddle player as you can tell. But as I have been watching these concerts at Zadie’s I have become fascinated by the electronic equipment that enhances the music. First of all everything is electronically enhanced with a wire plugged into every instrument. This probably only surprises me because I haven’t been to popular concerts for the last fifty years.

But Casey does more than simply enhance his music as you can see from this video. He layers one sound on top of another sound in loops, each loop adding another sound. When he gets around to playing the tune he has already in several sound overs built up the accompaniment to his tune before he gets there so that on the final round he has turned his fiddle into several accompanying instruments.

In between each loop he leans over and makes adjustments on the machines at his feet. And he is not the only one, every band does this. It is amazing.
