COLLEGE VIEW DRIVE STREET POTLUCK
Once a year the residents of College View Drive and invited guests come together and have an outdoor potluck. It was supposed to have been on Saturday, but heavy rain was predicted, so the event was moved to Sunday. Tom Showalter brought tables and folding chairs from the college and baked a ham. Someone else prepared pulled pork on which we put barbecue sauce. There were salads and vegetables and drinks. We sat at one long table which stretched down the middle of the street. There were not speeches, just friends getting together. Mars and Danielle, who had just bought my house, were there and seemed happy with their purchase. They were happy, I was happy, both of us feeling we had gotten a good deal in the sale, which is the way it should be. I felt a little bittersweet sadness when I walked by my house but told everyone I was happy where I am in Marshall, which I am. I have lived most of my life in American suburbia on College View Drive and now it is time to experience something else which Marshall brings me.
