LINCOLN

Lincoln has a large cathedral in the center of town on the top of a hill, Steep Hill, with a Roman Fort beside it. It is a tourist town just like Asheville and Marshall and Celle in Germany where I was a couple of months ago. The streets were crowded with people. It turned out also to be Gay Pride day so there were children wearing multi colored capes and a celebration going on in one of the restaurants. We went to a shop that Tina had showed us the day before with beautiful objects for sale and I bought a couple of Danish boxed mobiles for my new apartment. And then we walked down Steep Hill, stopping in at thrift stores and having lunch at the Wig and Mitre. I had Lancashire sausages and mashed potatoes and gravy and some delicious greens. When we got to the bottom of the hill we stopped in at Stokes Highbridge Cafe spanning the little river Witham for a scone with clotted cream and hot chocolate with piled up cream powdered with chocolate. And then we called Tina and were driven home and talked some more.
