MAY 9, FRIDAY

PLEASURE CHEST

On a beautiful spring afternoon in the yellow light of late evening with the placid French Broad River flowing behind them the band Pleasure Chest, an Asheville band that plays every Thursday at the 5 Walnut Bar in Asheville, played for Marshall at Zadie’s in the Old Marshall Jail in the outdoor patio beside the railway tracks at the edge of the river. After the band had warmed people up people began to dance. The evening ended at 9 with darkness settling in. It was a return to the Marshall of the days before the great flood at the end of September. Josh, the owner of Zadie’s, a Warren Wilson College grad, was ecstatic. Everyone was smiling. It was a marvelous evening.
