BLUEGRASS AT ZUMA’S

I discovered that in Marshall every Thursday night at Zuma’s Cafe, just across the river from my apartment, there is a bluegrass jam. Susie brought me here last week but i didn’t realize that it is a weekly thing. This time I came on my own.

The same group of about twenty musicians were there, mostly playing the guitar or fiddle, but this time there was also a piano player who pounded out marvelous tunes. People got up to dance. A lot of people talked over the music, but the point of the evening, for the musicians and the audience, was to have a good time to the beat of the music. This is one of the things I came to Marshall for. Even though I am an outsider I felt welcome in this mountain community where people gather to enjoy themselves in each other’s company.
