MARSHALL

I went with Susie to look at the open apartments at Capitola, the old cotton mill in Marshall that had been converted to apartments with the original wooden pillars and 13 foot ceilings with windows reaching up to the ceiling and all the most modern amenities. For residents to use there is an exercise room, a sauna, a hot tub and a small pool with flowing water, a community lounge and a rooftop deck. Pretty fancy.

Usually there are no empty apartments but hurricane Helene led a few people to leave. I thought I might get a one bedroom apartment but there are only two of those and the one being vacated was already asked for. But there were five two bedroom apartments free. We looked at all of them and then chose one as being right for me and went home to think about it, which I did all weekend. Two bedrooms are too big for me, but everything else about moving to Marshall and the Capitola apartments is very attractive. I will be living in a building where I will have constant contact with other people in a community, Marshall, with restaurants opening up after Helene and a Natural Food Store within walking distance. I will be living near my daughter, Susie, and her husband, Todd, who live near Marshall. I also know a number of people from meeting the Marshall people who went to Rob Amberg’s 75th birthday party in Letojanni, Sicily, a year ago and from taking photographs of 100 volunteers at Nanostead which was the staging area for people volunteering to clean the mud from Marshall after the flood. The more I think over moving to Capitola the more pleased I am.

After visiting Capitola we stopped by Peggy’s new Japanese inspired house for soup and sandwiches and good cheer.
