FEBRUARY 9, SUNDAY

In the morning I walked through the Artisan Market with the women in the group. The men stayed in the mansion on the hill. For the first time for me is the realization that shopping is a form of exploration, of opening up to new things. And there certainly is a great deal to explore in shops selling hand made things in the artisan market. Among other things I bought a small carved wooden image of Saint Francis and a small painted image of the Virgin of Guadalupe in a small shrine.

Then at 12 the whole group went to an event center, Zundunga, a half hour drive out of the city to listen to weekly concert, this time a visiting jazz trio that has events all over the United States followed by more Cuban musicians playing jazz. We were served a wonderful buffet meal of tacos and quesadillas with many toppings.

There were at least 100 paying guests ($40 apiece), almost all North Americans and almost all well over 60. I filmed the bands and the dancing.

Then we were back in time for the Super Bowl, which appeared on Mexican TV, of course in Spanish, which very quickly became a rout with the Kansas City Chiefs being forced into one error after another and by the triumphant Philadelphia Eagles, with even the halftime show of hiphop music not being very stimulating. And then, exhausted, we went to bed.
