TO CITY MARKET

Today I stayed in my room until noon, listening to Verdi’s Requiem from Edinburgh, Scotland, and reading a new book, The Book of Ebenezer le Page, a quirky novel about an old guy looking back on his life on the island of Guernsey and refusing to accept the modern world.

At noon I had brunch in the cafe below me in La Cabra Iluminada where I get a 15% discount, the same as the tip.

And then I decided to go to City Market, a mile and a half across town. By this time the temperature was in the high 70’s and I quickly wore out on the narrow cobblestone sidewalk while taking lots of photographs. I went downhill and then up and made it there. The reason for shopping at the elegant City Market, even though it is more expensive, is that in any other store I would have to ask where things were, but I don’t know the names in Spanish for what I am looking for. Here where things are organized in categories I could just guess where things might be. I walked and walked. I didn’t know the name for salt but guessed it was sal, didn’t know the name for pepper but guessed it was pimiento. I will only be on my own for another ten days or so, but there were no small sizes, so I might end up using only half of what I bought and lugged back. Now I’ve got to start cooking a little bit in the airbnb kitchen. Maybe I would have been better off eating out instead. But who knows?

Breakfast/lunch, $8, this morning was certainly delicious. My own fried potatoes, onions and eggs will certainly not taste as good, and probably will take an hour to cook, eat and wash up after.
Strange that after a nap my weary body, barely able to drag along, is completely restored and I feel great.
