GERLINDE BORIGHT’S EISENHERTZ FRIENDS
When Todd married my daughter Susie he brought me into his family, his three sisters who have become such good friends, and then also his family’s friends. When Todd was a boy his family lived in Vienna where his father worked on atomic energy. Good friends of theirs then, and later in Washington, are the Borights. John Boright works at the National Science Foundation, his wife, Gerlinde grew up in Eisenhertz, Austria. She and her brother Kurt emigrated to the United States years ago but are still rooted in Eisenhertz. Recently her brother went back for a visit and made videos of people they grew up with singing in a Gasthaus. Though I have no connection to these people their singing together really moves me. Their lives are so Austrian but there is something very warm and sweet about their signing that ties us together.
