LOIS SIMBACH’S LATEST FASHION SHOW

For years Lois Simbach has organized a yearly funky fashion show in the gallery of the Madison Arts Council, but this year’s fashion show topped them all. It took place a month and a half after Lois’s studio and apartment home was washed away by Helene’s fury leaving only a bare muddy concrete floor where her home and studio had been.

This year it took place at Nanostead, the staging from which volunteers from nearby and far away suited up in hazmat suits before cleaning the mud from Marshall. It was also a fundraiser to help Lois to return to painting and fashion designing. But most of all it was a joyful celebration of the end of the shock that has weighed down this community for a month and a a half.

There was a large raucous crowd of maybe 300 people cheering on the ladies in their homemade costumes as they strutted and shimmied their way down the runway in front of a costume tent accompanied by the staccato drumming of musicians and voice of Chad, the tattoo artist, whipping up the audience.

It was a wonderful afternoon about which Lois said, This has got to be one of the most special days of my life… thank you so much!!.. we will do more!!!
