MARSHALL FLOODING

Today Susie sent me photographs of the devastation in Marshall with mud and debris everywhere including inside the shops and restaurants that we like so much.  I will put these on here when I get internet access.  Before leaving for Bogota I gave Jamey, who runs a second hand bookstore on the ground floor below Susie’s second floor studio, 250 photography books that he was going to assess and try to sell.

They are now in the huge heap of muddy books on the street in front of his empty bookstore where the floor is covered with a foot of mud.  I am including here photographs of the Marshall devastation that Susie sent me.   The death toll in our area is above 60 now and will go up.

The irony of the untouched parts of Asheville where we live contrasted with the terrible devastation along the Swannanoa and French Broad rivers is overwhelming.  For some of us not having electricity, water, internet or cell phone service is a mild inconvenience while other people are dealing with the loss of their homes and family members with their lives turned upside down.
