CARRERA 7

On the weekend Carrera 7, the wide street with hawkers everywhere, is crowded with people. I don‘t know where the people come from. They can‘t all be living in the high rise apartment buildings where my apartment is. I think they must come from other parts of town and simply like to spend an afternoon and evening walking the broad avenue in the presence of crowds of people. I think something happened like this in the Asheville Mall years ago. In the 70’s the mall was crowded with young people and families getting out of the house and walking around with crowds of people in the airconditioned comfort of the mall. Now the Asheville Mall is dead, during the week and on weekends. I don‘t know where people go. Tourists visiting Asheville walk around downtown, filling the sidewalks. I guess Asheville natives stay home.

But for a tourist in Bogata the crowds in the street dressed up in lively costumes, the loudspeakers of vendors, the sounds of music is really stimulating. Of course there are pickpockets in all this hubbub but there is no danger and finally I‘ve learned to keep my wallet and credit cards zipped away and hang on tightly to my iPhone as I take photos.

So on this Saturday afternoon I took photographs and then went into Pasteleria La Florida, which had a waiting line, for dinner.
