FLEA MARKET AND GOING OUT TO EAT

Sunday in the area around our Airbnb is wild. After joining the weekly Sunday Mahy Zoom video with Sara in Washington, Lisa on an island off the coast of Washington, Todd in Madison County and us in Bogata we headed out to the Sunday flea market which was in a large parking lot close to our Airbnb. In spite of the temperature only being about 70 the day was hot. But the crowd was enormous with all kinds of used goods for sale.

After the flea market we headed up through a large park to an elegant section of high rise apartments to eat lunch in a huge hall where there must have been 30 restaurants serving endless rows of tables. The huge high ceilinged hall was jammed with a crowd waiting to be seated. We didn’t know if there was a line or not but just sat down at a table for four already occupied by two men. We couldn’t understand the Spanish menu but with the help of a little boy who spoke English at the next table made two choices. My choice was a huge bowl of soup with potatoes and other vegetables and an 6 inch cross section of some enormous fish. I could only eat a third of it and took home the other two thirds for two more meals.

But we weren’t there for the food, we were there for the experience of a thousand people at least crowded around small tables with people and waiters squeezing the narrow aisles. The place was noisy and overwhelming.
Finally finished we went down the street to an Italian restaurant with a view of the mountains and Bogata where we sat on the roof terrace and each had a passionfruit gelato.

And then we headed back home down a street of brightly painted restaurants and walked back through the crowds past the flea market to our Airbnb where I collapsed.
