FENWAY PARK TOUR

The big event today was taking the guided tour around Fenway Park with my son Tom. In the morning Tom and Kathy helped Caroline pick up and put together some new piece of furniture. I stayed in our Airbnb. At 3 p.m. we all went to a nearby oyster bar and for the first time in my life I slurped a raw oyster.

The oyster itself was wet and slippery and without a strong taste. The gooey texture was the main feature. But as with a Burger King hamburger where, for me, the ketchup is what makes it taste good, with raw oyster the flavor comes from the sauces you put on it.

After a couple of oysters and a bowl of the best clam chowder I‘ve ever had, Tom and I took an Uber to Fenway Park, the oldest professional ball park in America, built in 1912. Tom knew the history of Fenway and was acquainted with the ball players who had played there. I knew a couple of names, Ted Williams and Babe Ruth, but took photographs of anything that might be important, more for Tom than for myself. Our guide was a former college and high school English teacher who knew everything about Fenway Park and was fun to listen to.

After Fenway Park we walked down Newbury Street, the shopping Mecca of Boston, then we went to Buttermilk restaurant for another gourmet meal, this time I had baby back ribs, our final gourmet meal (all our meals were gourmet meals) in Boston.
