BOSTON

Today I am in Boston for the White Coat Ceremony when my granddaughter Caroline receives her doctor’s coat at the beginning of her medical training at Tufts Medical College. It also includes a visit to Boston, where I have never been. I flew in very early, up at 3:30 to catch a 6:30 flight on Allegiant. I spent the morning first finding my way into Boston from the airport, taking the first free bus to South Station, without having any idea where it was, because I couldn’t find the 66 bus to the ferry to the Aquarium. Luckily, the walk from South Station to the Aquarium turned out to be an easy walk and the Hop On, Hop Off Bus that I had bought a ticket for was just ready to begin the tour. So I got to see a great deal of Boston and from the open air up deck to take photographs. From the bus we saw famous landmarks from a distance, but what most struck me about Boston were the streets of narrow 4 story red brick elegant houses squeezed shoulder to shoulder down the street. They reminded me of the town houses of London or the town houses of Haarlem, Netherlands and could almost have been in a painting by Vermeer.
I met my granddaughter Caroline in Chinatown and we ate Dim Sum in a traditional Chinese restaurant filled with Chinese people and then watched Chinese playing card and board games in the park.
