BOGATA
I have asked almost everyone I have met if they would like to go with me to Bogata next month. I have an air ticket for the month of September, leaving August 28 and have reserved an Airbnb with two bedrooms and two baths.
There were a few nibbles but no one would commit. I was going alone. But a couple of weeks ago my daughter Susie quit her job working at propagating native plants and turned her attention to sorting out my wife Kathe’s huge collection of knitting wool and buttons and costume jewelry and clothing to find a new home for them. As time went on and she had no time to look for a new job and the time to leave for Bogata got closer I began to sense, with great hope, that she would be willing to go to Bogata for a couple of weeks before looking for a new job. She is wonderful to travel with and is great at finding interesting things to do.
So she is going with me for two weeks. I used American Airlines miles for an air ticket and already had the Airbnb so she can travel at almost no cost. And it will make my trip to Bogata much more fun. It fact, for the first time I had enough enthusiasm to first look on line to find out where Colombia is and to begin learning about the kinds of people who live there. It is a multi cultural place but with huge income disparity which has caused unrest and a history of rebellions and violence. But apparently this is a time when Colombia is peaceful and Bogata promises to be fascinating.
