DOWNTOWN ASHEVILLE
Susie came to town and we went to the Black Mountain College to a 2 hour movie on Pauline Oliveros, a composer of cutting edge electronic music who taught people how to listen to the sounds around them. She looked like an ordinary person with a deprecating sense of humor but she was an overwhelming presence to the musicians she attracted who made weird beautiful music with all kinds of sounds in the San Francisco area at first and then in New York City.
On the way back to our car at 9:30 p.m. we happened on the band at 5 Walnut Wine Bar of Susie’s friend Erich Hübner, guitarist, who has a studio space next to Susie’s in Marshall.

Some of the band members were outside on the sidewalk taking a break and invited us in to listen to song or two. They all have respectable day jobs, but Thursday night at 5 Walnut is their chance to fly. Inside the crowd was pumped up and joyful. I pushed my way right to the front and made a spatial video of the band and people dancing, which even in the low light, turned out well. I am including it here.
