MAGA NUTTINESS: AN ALTERNATE VIEW
I’ve been wondering, as have all my friends, how anyone can blindly believe what Donald Trump says about the last election, or anything else, when he so obviously lies about most anything and seems to my half of the country to be unfit to be dog catcher, let alone President.
I have to start with the assumption that the other half of the country can’t be nuts, can’t be stupid, can’t be wrong. A few people can be nuts, but not half the country, all at the same time. When I am out and about I can’t tell the MAGA voters from the liberals. Everyone seems polite and friendly and perfectly sane. Of course, when people pass me by they can’t tell if I am a MAGA voter who thinks Donald Trump is the best hope to save America or if I think he is a complete fake. People who think Trump is our only hope believe what he says, but they won’t let themselves be shortchanged at the grocery store or buy vegetables that don’t look fresh or pay an extra ten cents for gasoline. They have their wits about them. They are not unreasonable or nuts.
In fact, reason must not have anything to do with why they believe in Trump so strongly.
It must be the way that liberals seem to make them feel about themselves and the things that they hold most dear. Liberals must be a threat to them and their identity. To them Donald Trump apparently not only feels as strongly about liberals as they do, but he has the strength and the ability to stand up to liberals and show them to be corrupt and weak and a menace from a MAGA perspective. He calls liberals the names that echo their MAGA feelings. For example, to be liberal by definition you have to be open to all kinds of perspectives and all kinds of people and all kinds of behavior. It is this openness everything that seems to MAGA people to be the liberals biggest blind spot and failure.
My barber says he believes in two things, his Bible and his guns. Liberals are wishywashy on the Bible and are open to the Koran or the Bhagavad Gita or the sayings of Buddha or almost everything else that a person could feel is holy. This means that liberals don’t feel certain about any religious beliefs at all and are as likely not to believe in God as to be a believer which means that they really can’t believe in the Bible absolutely. Trump not only says he believes in fundamentalist Christianity, he is determined to put fundamentalist Christians on the Supreme Court. Case closed, of course MAGA’s idolize him. If you are a fundamentalist Christian, Trump is your man. Not only that, but if you are a fundamentalist Christian and the country seems to be sliding away from Christian principles, Trump will protect you and restore the power of the fundamentalist churches.
He will also insist on protecting your right to protect yourself and your way of life with a gun, no questions asked.
If your are a MAGA Christian you are guided by common sense and what you intuitively feel is right which includes recognizing males as head of the household and women as bearers and nuturers of the family. He makes you proud to be an American, a tribe that has a great tradition and is rightfully a world power whose first duty is to protect its citizens. People who have different values, people from countries very different from our own, are likely as immigrants to undermine our values. Of course, people who preach genders different than is biologically natural are a threat. Donald Trump not only stands up for these values he is willing to call out liberals and to challenge them and to call them the threat that they are. He is not namby pamby, he is willing to call a spade a spade and to throw the bums out or at least shut them up.
Donald Trump makes people feel strong in their values and good about themselves. He makes people feel good and at his rallies people are able to let their patriotism fly wearing red, white and blue, and to celebrate their beliefs and to unashamedly feel good about themselves. No wonder half the country loves Donald Trump or a least feels he is the strongest and safest alternative in an election.
If Liberals mock Donald Trump or attack him or try to send him to jail it confirms the strength of his presence and his beliefs and makes MAGA people feel mad as hell and also under attack because, as Trump says, the liberals aren’t only attacking him, they are attacking everyone who believes as he does.
My liberal friends may think MAGA people are nuts because they don’t see the world in the way common sense educated, critically thinking liberal people do, and the way the facts based mainline news does and that MAGA people are blind to his faults. But MAGA people and their friends are delighted that someone is finally sticking up for them and putting the elite, prissy, politically correct liberals in their place. Finally someone is standing up for the values that make America the greatest country on earth with traditional American values that are year by year being corroded away.
