WINSEN

I spent the whole day until 6 p.m. in Wildblume, my rental apartment while at the same time through the large screen Apple Vision Pro learning about the super volcano which blew up Santorini, where I was a few months ago, leading to the decline of the Minoan Mediterranean empire, through a German documentary and watching Igor Levit play Beethoven Sonatas, which I mentioned before, and dropping in on the Master’s golf tournament in Augusta, Georgia and having other adventures in my Apple Vision Pro bubble. Tom connected with me and then Susie over Facetime as if they were right here. I wasn’t lonely.

Then I went to Heinrich and Elke’s house where I joined 93 year old Heinrich as he was clipping the edges of his small yard. For the thirty years since his retirement as a school principal Heinrich has been an avid Gardner, which is getting harder and harder to do.

He has some raised beds where he can stand up and garden but a fairly small garden. We ate another German supper of bread and different cold meats and as a special treat warm hard boiled eggs in a white sauce which we also put on bread and ate. Afterward we played Skipbo, which none of us could remember the rules to since it had been years since we had played Skipbo. I won, the one minor achievement of my day.
