GEX
There were two events today that were fun for me. One was driving into Geneva, first to take Mary to work at 8 a.m., then going to the railway office to see how to use my Eurail pass. It turns out that it was simple and all done on the Eurail app. But after that we went to four grocery stores as Craig was shopping for dinner in the evening. Each of the large stores were different and all interesting. Grocery stores are a way of getting a glimpse of what people eat in a country and of products that are different from what you can buy at home.

Then I worked on photographs for part of the day and then in the late afternoon was invited to go along with Craig to have a drink with some neighbors who live a short walk away. They bought a house about five years ago that at one time was a traditional farm house/barn with the house on one end and the barn with the farm animals and farm equipment on the other. They now have an apartment in the farm house side and a beautiful big living room dining room with a circular fireplace in the center on the ground floor of the old barn with the heavy exposed wooden posts holding up the second floor exposed. Up a staircase were bedrooms. On one side of the house was a wide meadows lawn with flowers and a view of Mont Blanc, on the other side was a view of a ridge of the Jura mountains and on the third side a large table where the couple who owned it could have parties. It was all fairy tale enchanting

Greg is American and had attended law school at Duke and then been a human rights lawyer, now retired, in Sri Lanka and other world trouble spots. Francine is Austrailian and is just back from two months in Austrailia with with her parents. We drank vodka and tonic and talked.
Craig had a pot roast in the oven so when we got back, Mary was already here, by bus to Gex and then walking up, we had a marvelous dinner with the appropriate wine.
