LYON
We left our airbnb at 9 after very little breakfast, planning to stop on the way at a cafe. We drove through village after village and nothing was open until finally in Annonay we found a bar with an American theme where we could got hot chocolate, coffee and a croissant.

Then we drove on to Lyon where a French friend of Craig‘s in Sag Harbor years ago, Fabianne Monami, was going to have lunch with us and to show us around Lyon. She was a wonderful, lively woman with great enthusiasm. First we drove up to the huge Basilica at the top of a hill overlooking town with a wide view of all of Lyon.

Then we stopped by the ancient Roman theatre of Fourvière holding 10,000 people built at the time of Augustus Caesar in the first century AD.

And then we went to Brasserie Georges restaurant which had a long waiting line, rapid service and good food. Craig and Fabianne had a concoction of raw hamburger with raw egg and garlic and onions stirred into it. I tasted one bite. The flavor was better than the gooey texture. I had famous Lyon sausage and mashed potatoes. And then, beginning to sag a little, at least me, we went to the old town, a mostly tourist area with tourist souvenirs but a towering cathedral on the steps of which a mime did a lively show that I videotaped with Mary‘s phone since mine had died.

And then we said goodbye and thanks to Fabianne and drove home two hours in the rain. I slept all the way.
