MARCH 29, FRIDAY

BONCIEU DE ROI

We began our trip to the Ardeche region of France with a long ride on a highway through Lyon.

We stopped at Tournon-Sur-Rhone for lunch, and then drove on back country roads that followed every curve of the hills as we climbed higher and higher into pine forests.

It was a beautiful ride through the dark forests with a few lumber towns with their stone houses and buildings along the way to Boncieu de Roi, a town with grey stone buildings and a large church that seemed almost built as a tourist attraction with signs in French labeling everything.

Our Airbnb was a cozy stone building with outer and even interior stone walls seeming to be two feet thick. We got there in mid afternoon and first walked around the village and into the church.

There were no restaurants in town so we drove several miles to a larger town, Lamastre, with a restaurant where we discovered a beautiful small grocery store where we bought ready made soup, two loaves of bread, cheese and fruit which we brought back for dinner. When we can back we ate and then settled in front of the large flat screen TV, but I was sleepy so went to bed. Craig and Mary watched the only show they could find in English about the dogs of Istanbul and the Syrian refugees that befriended them.
