OLD MAN’S FRIDAY MEETING
Every Friday my old man’s group of Warren Wilson College connected friends meet to talk. For the last two months I have tried to join the 10 a.m. coffee hour from Sri Lanka or India (at 9 in the evening just before I went to bed). We tried to connect on Facetime over an iPhone which we could never seem to work and since half of us are going deaf we couldn’t hear ourselves when it did work. When I called I was always on a different wave length and always interrupted the conversation for the few minutes that I intruded.
So today it was nice to meet in person. I had just received the $10 Google Cardboard Reader from Amazon so could show them spatial videos of the Indian wedding in a fuzzy 3D. I am sure that on the $3500 Vision Pro the spatial video would be clear and sharp and immersive, but the $10 cardboard viewer is all I can afford so far. If anyone looking at my wandering on these web pages can look at them on the Vision Pro I would like to know how they look.
I am including a little video of our group at the Cornerstone restaurant where we meet once a month. We are just a bunch of old men and when the camera turns on us we don’t know what we are supposed to do, but here we are, except for me behind the iPhone.
