TEEN DARWAZA

On Tuesday Mihir and Hetvi, Prisha and Manda left left early in the morning to fly to San Francisco and Nidhi and Herin left a 3 p.m. to fly to Brampton in Canada. Everyone was busy seeing people off so I had the morning free and took a motor rickshaw to the Teen Darwaza bazaar to take photographs and videos. Teen Darwaza, Three Gates, through the wall of the old city is the center of a throbbing bazaar.

I walked slowly through the narrow lanes lined with open shops with wares of all kinds displayed and throngs of shoppers. And then, exhausted,

I went to the nearby House of MG, where Kathe, Susie and Elke stayed after Niddhi’s wedding five years ago and sat in the outdoor cafe with the sounds of the bazaar drifting in from the street to the Green House restaurant to have a quiet meal. I wanted Western food after five weeks of chili in everything and the only things offered were mac and cheese and cheese nachos with salsa. I chose cheese nachos which bore little resemblance to Mexican nachos or Mexican cheese or Mexican salsa, which I should have known would be the case, but were good anyway. And then after walking through the heritage hotel where the three had had such a good time and videoing it I headed back to Hasmukh’s house and the long ride back to Virampur.
