in the colorfilled field outside teams of young women adept in hand painting with henna applied henna to the hands of any women attending the wedding who wanted to have their hands painted. Then the women would stand in front of a huge fan to dry the henna on their hands and then wash off the henna paste, leaving an elaborate design. The quality of the designs depends upon being able to apply the henna in very thin lines in order to make elaborate designs. In a week or two the red design will slowly fade and then disappear.
