KANDY PEOPLE

Here are a few photographs of people in the streets of Kandy that I took while going out for breakfast with Winsor and Thalatha. The first is of a bride and groom in what must be very traditional wedding costumes in the street in front of the Queens Hotel by the lake being photographed by a photographer.

The mural paintings were in a walkway tunnel at a very busy intersection. The others are random people or things that caught my eye.

After breakfast we went by bus to the Perediniya Botanical Gardens outside of town. This is a beautiful huge garden laid out in the British time with wide walkways and all kinds of trees and plants, carefully labeled. We first looked through the orchid house and then walked along the paths for awhile. The gardens were full of Sri Lankan families out for a stroll and a good number of Westerners. Foreigners had to pay 3000 rs ($9) admission and Sri Lankans 200 rs (60 cents), another sign that the country is cash strapped.
