DECEMBER 17, SUNDAY

THE TERMINAL BUILDING

A year ago on June 30th I got on Amtrak in Greenville, South Carolina at 2 in the morning and circled the borders of the United States, returning 30 days later. A high point of that trip was the five days I spent over the 4th of July in Bellingham, Washington with Jim and Lisa (Mahy) Hested. On July 1st Lisa showed me around the Terminal Building, a two story building with a number of offices upstairs and a restaurant and coffee shop downstairs. Jim and his father had bought a number of years earlier and Jim and Lisa were now the proud owners. Lisa had her office as a counselor in this building.

Last night the Terminal Building burned down. Jim and Lisa are devastated. The whole Mahy clan is gathering the week of December 23rd for the reunion they hold every other Christmas and of course Jim and Lisa and their children, Kalifa and Lulu, Have been planning to be there and so are Todd, Susie and I. I have no idea what will happen now. But in memory of the building I am going to put on some photographs of the building a year ago. The photographs of the fire are taken from the Cascadia Daily News, Sunday, December 17 (https://www.cascadiadaily.com/news/2023/dec/17/late-night-fire-devastates-historic-fairhaven-building/)
