DECEMBER 6, WEDNESDAY

MARSHALL

Wednesday I met Susie in Marshall for lunch at Zuma, a restaurant in the center of town. Before my last trip to Sicily, Marshall was an interesting small town twenty miles down the French Broad River from Asheville where my daughter has a studio in the Masonic Building and where she knows many people. Marshall is the closest town, twenty miles from the country cabin deep in the woods where Todd and Susie live.

But since attending Rob Amberg‘s birthday party in Letojani, Sicily, two months ago that was attended by many of the movers and shakers in Marshall, I also know some people in Marshall. There in Zuma was Pete, a developer who has modernized many of the buildings in town, who mentioned looking at my photographs of the Amberg birthday party that I have put on these posts. And serving us in Zuma was the son of Paul Gurewitz who was also in Letojanni. I felt this visit as if I was a part of Marshall, a good feeling.

In Marshall today in the Madison County Arts Council building is a display of hand made articles made by Madison County artists. Madison County is a mixture of the old and the new, and part of the new is this thriving artist community.
