DECEMBER 1, FRIDAY

HOME BUT WITH HYDRA ON MY MIND

Friday morning my men’s group met in the Cornerstone Restaurant in Asheville as we do on the first Friday of every month. It was in a way as if I had never left. We were joined by Jeff Keith who is the only one of us still teaching, who is beginning to serve as the college archivist through the reshuffling of positions at Warren Wilson College which is downsizing and reinventing itself once again as it did so often when I was teaching there. So the talk was all about the past at Warren Wilson College, local history, with the rest of the world no longer important. But for me the transition was too quick. Right now it seems as strange to be here as it felt two days ago odd and amazing to be in Hydra. How does it happen that I am in either place, with one place seeming as foreign as the other. So until I can make the transition I will keep dreaming of Hydra with these photos my connection to the dream.
