NOVEMBER 25, SATURDAY

LEAVING PAROS

We were going to leave for Athens on Sunday, but big winds were predicted that would keep the ferry boats in port, so we left on Saturday. We were uncertain whether the ferry was even going to brave the winds on Saturday or if the ticket office would be open. But everything worked out fine. Efi drove us to Parokia in her red car and we hugged goodbye, promising to be back. We had a wonderful time in Paros.

The Blue Star Ferry was huge with comfortable reclining cushy seats, but we spent most of our time sitting out on deck in the sun shielded in a corner from the fierce winds. We passed island after island.

In the early afternoon I napped while Susie explored and then when she came back we walked over to the pedestrian street with elegant stores where Susie had discovered that Black Friday weekend in Athens is a more major event than it is in Asheville with everyone dressed up and out shopping. The street was packed.

On the way back we discovered a section that was all Japanese restaurants. We chose, SO, SO, SO RAMEN where I had a rice bowl of spicy garlic beef and rice. Then worn out from our afternoon in the wind on deck the boat I went to bed early and Susie wandered again.
