OCTOBER 23, MONDAY (2)

FASHION SHOW

Shortly after Caroline and Tom came back from their around the volcano caldera catamaran tour they were ready to go again. We walked through Oia one more time in the late afternoon sun. I took photographs of anyone or anything that struck my fancy, but when throwing out most of them and processing a couple of hundred I was struck by several things. The first was that I was photographing a fashion show, not as wacky as the Marshall fashion show I photographed a month ago, but just as colorful. I was photographing one colorful dress after another and the people wearing them. The second thing that I noticed was how many of the people whose dresses I photographed were looking at their cell phones, either at selfies or at news from home. Cell phones are so common I didn’t notice them in a photograph until later. KlAnd a third thing I noticed was how many of the most extravagant or elegant costumes were worn by ladies from Africa or East Asia, either China or Japan, I couldn’t tell which. Along with photographs of Santorini island in the late afternoon I ended up with too many photographs for one showing so will show a couple of sets of Santorini in the evening. Tomorrow we leave Santorini and it is the colorful people and the white houses piled up on the rim of the volcano that I will remember along with the good food and, especially, being here with my son and granddaughter. I will also remember the ache of the miles long walks we have made.
