BUENOS AIRES BY WAY OF COLONIA

You can take a ferry from Montevideo to Buenos Aires or you can take the long bus ride to Colonia and then a short 40 minute ferry ride across the wide Plata to Buenos Aires. I took the long bus ride through the countryside of sheep and cattle and wide fields. Colonia was one of the original colonies in Uruguay and a small 6 by 8 block area by the sea has been restored in parts to be a memorial to the original settlers. It is also shows that one of Uruguays main businesses is tourism, mainly for Brazilian and Argentinian tourists. So it is partly old town with a few museums and partly beautiful tourist shops and restaurants. It is beautiful, though, and worth a visit.
