THE CELL
I feel as if I am the last person to find out about the cells which make up my entire body, so this post is more of a confession of my ignorance than a report to anyone else. I was talking with my physical therapist, Dan about my obsession with fungi. He said that if wanted to learn about something even more miraculous I should watch a You Tube film on the cell. So this evening I did. In fact I discovered that there are a number of You Tube videos on the cell as well as on everything else under the sun including Donald Trump being indicted for the third time today.
But the big news for me today wasn’t Donald Trump and his lawbreaking ways, it was a video on the human cell including a visual description of how a tiny blob of a reader within with the cell transcribes the 3 billion instructions of the double helix of DNA creating a brand new strand of DNA which was then, when the cell divided, put into the new cell. There was also information of the tremendously complicated process by which processes within the cell turns proteins into stored energy. There was much, much, more that a cell, which can only be seen with a very powerful microscope, can do. In fact, in a model of a cell 10,000 times enlarged in the video I discovered a whole extremely complicated world through of hundreds of different processes happening at the same time. The cell is an ocean of strange floating bodies and different unbelievable activities through which I was floating.
Somehow for me a cell is a cell, what I thought was complicated and amazing about me is my brain and my vivid imagination, but here were much more fantastic processes happening within me, completely out of my consciousness and control and I was making a space odyssey through this wonderous, watery, wild place.
I won’t say anything more except to confess to how ignorant I am and certainly unable to explain any of this to anyone else.
