OCTOBER 15, SATURDAY

LAST DAY IN MARRAKECH

Today was one of those days on a trip when things go unexpectedly wrong and the day turns out to seem like a wasted day. I processed photographs in the morning with the Wifi at Riad 111 being the only Wifi we’ve had in Morocco fast enough to upload and process the 48 MP photographs that my new iPhone 14 plus can produce, photographs finally with enough resolution to appear sharp even when radically cropped.

At lunch we decided to go to the new modern part of Marrakech where a highly rated French restaurant, Karobase, promised a marvelous French meal. We took a taxi to the modern section of town and followed Google Maps directions. We walked and walked and finally when right where it was supposed to be, asked. But it was no where to be found, no one had heard of it, we were following a mirage. Either it had suddenly vanished, or Google Maps had become addled or was in a joking mood, or we were going nuts, which we were by this time, hot in the bright sun and tired and blaming each other.

Finally, to escape, we got into a very elegant horse drawn carriage and pranced through the streets to an Italian restaurant, which was there, and had a good meal.

But by now the day was lost. We took a taxi back to our Riad, I napped and then it was time for supper.

So we booked a table at Limoni, the nearby elegant Italian restaurant where we had eaten before and we knew was there and had a final excellent meal in Marrakech. There was a Moroccan menu and an Italian menu. I chose from the sophisticated Italian menu, something that I have never had before, camel burger with orange spiced onions and ginger sauce. It was a little gristly but delicious.
