OCTOBER 6, THURSDAY

LOCAL ESSAOUIRA

Susie, my daughter, arrived yesterday by way of Newark, Montreal and Casablanca, a day and a half trip. We ate dinner at the very nice Triskala restaurant.

This morning she was recovered from her trip. We had breakfast at the Mandala Society, a somewhat hippie Western place where this was the breakfast that came closest to Waffle House.

Eggs with avocado toast, fruit, olives and garbanzos.

Then we began to explore Essaouria, not the tourist part where I have been walking for ten days, but the gate of the Medina that leads to the part of town where ordinary people live. Here the stores were more the goods of Dollar General spread out on the sidewalk, colorful and chaotic with all kinds of fruits and bread for sale: mangoes, custard apples, persimmons, bananas, avocados and on and on. Here is some of what we saw.
