THE FEAST
It rained all day Saturday and we were shut in until in the middle of the afternoon it finally let up a little. We drove to a feast being cooked up by Paul Dixon who loves to cook for huge crowds. There were supposed to be six families there but the rain must have kept some people at home or else they visited earlier and were gone by the time we got there.
The feast was in some cabins that Paul Dixon and Jude were staying in with their kids and a number of friends near Marshall. When we got there at 5:15 for the 6:00 p.m. feast we found Paul to be the most relaxed of hosts. He had been in the hot tub and was just beginning to cook. He had time to tell stories, to offer us a variety of drinks, as he chopped away.
And what a meal it was with sliced beets and carrots on a base of ground pistachio nuts, plum cake to go under homemade ice cream and about ten other dishes with names so fancy I can’t remember any of them. It was delicious.
I took photographs which all turned out fuzzy. But the high point of the entertainment for the evening was three daughters who were having a terrific time making prank calls with outrageous requests to restaurants and other place. Susie joined them and I have a few photographs of their fun.
