WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA STATE FAIR

Every year in October a version of the Agricultural State Fair comes to the Agricultural Extension Center outside of Ashville. There is judging of cows and pigs and other farm activities, but the big excitement is the bright lights and wild rides and carnival atmosphere of the fair with plenty of cotton candy and corn dogs and jumbo turkey legs and funnel cakes to eat. On this gloomy day in January with Omicron everywhere and everyone huddled at home, this is a reminder of how lively and full of fun Asheville and the surrounding mountain counties can be.
