FOOD
I am looking forward to the food in Greece, particularly the seafood, but nothing could be more exotic or more of a cross-cultural experience

than the Ostrich carpaccio, thinly sliced raw ostrich with greens, followed up by char-grilled octopus with crispy potatoes and chimichurri sauce that I had last night at the Bush Farmhouse

restaurant right here in Black Mountain. I was invited out by my granddaughter Caroline, home for the weekend from NC State to have

her wisdom teeth removed, and her parents, Tom and Kathy. We ate outdoors with a menagerie of miniature donkeys, ducks and the ugliest pot bellied pig, named Candy, that I have ever seen in pens next to us.
The co-owner and chef grew up in South Africa and so the menu has a a South African bent but with food from other places as well. After the meal we sat by the outdoor fire. It was a marvelous evening.
